As the MRHS 2025-26 year comes to an end and spring sports wrap up, MRHS recognizes the tremendous accomplishments made by its student-athletes across every team. From nail-biting victories on the field to personal bests on the track, students have shown dedication, teamwork, and school spirit all year long. Each game, meet, and match added to a season full of championship titles, growth, and unforgettable moments for the MRHS community.
First and foremost, Marriotts Ridge kicked-off their 2025-26 athletic year with fall sports, starting with storing an abundance of championship titles and documenting several personnel records.
One of the most anticipated sports in this building, football had a great turnover this season by winning regionals. The team incorporated elements such as film perception and most importantly working together and building up on the win.
“Our team did a lot of planning and strategizing. We also watched film a lot, probably 4 times a week which led us to win the championship,” senior captain Markus Hollis explained.
Another regional victory was marked by the women’s field hockey team by winning 1-0 against Atholton. The team built up on teamwork and rigorous drills to ensure their victory and ascend the title of regional champions.
The women’s soccer team marked a :notable history by securing their position as regional champions in the fall. The Lady Mustangs secured their regional title with a strong run, defeating Franklin High 5-1 in the early rounds before eventually concluding their season in the state tournament.
As the days got shorter, the weather got colder, and fall sports came to an end, the basketball season had one of the best seasons ever witnessed in the MRHS history. The team clinched both county and regionals champions titles. Marriotts Ridge defeated the Oakland Mills Scorpions in a 40-38 thriller to capture their second county title in five years. The Mustangs clinched the regional title after a 42-41 victory against New Town. The Mustangs concluded their season with a quarterfinal defeat, after following a 44-42 loss against Frederick High School.
According to the Junior Captain Blake Willingham, the team was built up on rigorous practice sessions and relentless training to secure a successful season.
“Our team watched films, went through detailed reports about every team, a lot of practice sessions and building as a team helped us win the championship,” junior captain Blake Willingham stated.
As the winter season descended, and spring came through, the spring season at Marriotts Ridge marked notable victories and personal records throughout the whole season.
The reigning women’s lacrosse team marked a successful season with clinching both county and regional titles. The Mustangs defeated Glenelg in a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory, snapping Glenelg’s 55-game county winning streak, to secure the title of county champions. The team dominated postseason play, including an 11-3 victory in the regional finals to secure their spot in the state tournament. The Lady Mustangs advanced to the MPSSAA 3A State Championship at Stevenson University, finishing as the state runner-up after a narrow 9-8 defeat to Severna Park.
The Marriotts Ridge boys tennis team had a highly successful spring season in 2026, compiling an undefeated 13-0 regular-season record. Under head coach Scott Dingman, Marriotts Ridge High School won the MPSSAA Class 3A West Region Tennis Championship, scoring 19 points to eliminate Centennial and Atholton. In individual regional competition, the team advanced multiple entries into the State Championship tournaments. In states, MRHS claimed the Class 3A state tennis championship with their mixed doubles pair, Stella Lee and Ricky He, winning the state title.
“Our team was really organized and structured throughout the season. We had practice everyday, except for match days. The organization and the structure throughout the whole season built us to win the championship,” senior captain Tyler Wang said.
The Marriotts Ridge High School track and field team also put together a phenomenal outdoor season in 2026. The Mustangs saw top-tier performances during the MPSSAA Outdoor Track and Field Regional Championship, which were held at Oakdale High School, MD. At the championship, Kiki Onabiyi placed 1st in girls discus, Elle Hagan placed 1st in girls pole vault, Jaidyn Augustine placed 1st in girls long jump, and Yash Rekula placed 1st in boys pole vault. These Mustangs advanced to compete at the state championships and shortly concluded their excellent season.
From the first kickoff in the fall to the final matches of the spring, the 2025-2026 sports seasons showcased the absolute best of Marriott Ridge athletics. Challenging expectations, breaking records, and bringing home an abundance of county and regional championships, MRHS student-athletes have set a new standard of excellence. Congratulations to all the Mustangs on a phenomenal year of growth, teamwork, and championship victories!
